Best Things to Do In Kanchanburi
The Death Railway
I just love Asian history and after reading about this bridge so many times, I was really excited to finally visit this place.
This place is officially called the Tham Kra Sae Overlook. The train itself is said to look the same as it did since the decades ago when it first passed through these mountains along the cliff-hugging tracks. And as expected, the scenery was AMAZING.
We walked the entire stretch of the track. It was a pretty scary walk cause the tracks were pretty narrow and there were no handles to hold.
We kept asking why aren’t the other tourist walking the tracks as well. Turns out it was an ACTIVE TRACK and we actually walked from one end to the other !!! Good thing there was no train passing through during our whole journey on the bridge
After a 10 min walk, we were so relieved when we finally made it to the end of the track…Until we realized we have to make our way back again on the same track CRIESSSS.
Overall it was a really scary but fun & thrilling experience.
Next we moved on to our last stop for our trip to kanchanaburi. This is one of the best things to do in Kanchanaburi.
Muang Mallika ( Mallika City / MALLIKA R.E.124 )
This place simply BEAUTIFULLLLLL !!!!!!!! Mallika R.E 24 is the ancient-city reflecting the past Siamese lifestyle in the Chao Phraya River Basin. It is a new and largely unknown tourist attraction. The entrance fee is 250 Baht. It is a beautiful ancient town with people dressed in traditional Siamese costume. You will feel like you traveled back to old Thailand. The buildings there are simply gorgeous and stunning. It is like stepping into an Ancient Thai Disneyland.
The colorful buildings at the ancient market zone are seriously so insta worthy
We had our lunch here and paid for our food with ancient coins as well ( we had to do currency exchange here haha )
All the food here are served in Siamese Style
And this is the Saphan Han (Turnable bridge)
Reuan Pae: During that time, the most common means to transport was by the river. Shophouses, thus, located on the river banks. There were also Ruen Pae or floating houses for trading. Tonghoo, the most modern café of the era with its imported coffee beans, used its Ruen Pae to accommodate travelers.
Reuan Hmoo was used by the rich as a visitor reception. Wealthy Thai people could include high ranking officers or rich merchants. To own Thai traditional dance team to perform for their important visitors was also a popular idea among noblemen then.
Reuan Khaha Bodi is for the rich. Inside Reuan Khaha Bodi displays lifestyle of the ruling class, including various activities such as fruit & vegetable carving, flower & banana leaf decoration, and etc.
This place is a GEM! Great way to end our Kanchanaburi Trip. This are some of the best things to do in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. A little gem of a city.
